Red Velvet is going to Steamboat Springs, Colorado
The AWA (American Women Artists) selected my painting "Red Velvet" to go to Steamboat Springs, CO in May. It is one out of 150 that will grace the walls of the Steamboat Springs Art Museum. I am so excited and honored to have this acknowledgement. I hope I get to make the trip out there as well. Art takes me so many places inside of myself as well as to parts of the world I have never seen. I love my job. I get to meet some amazing people and make wonderful friends. It is an adventurous trip to both places.
This painting Red Velvet, was born during the winter holidays when I was at Publix, I was there doing my normal shopping, and I saw this beautiful slice of cake. It kept shining it's red velvety porous cake at me, and the creamy icing was making my mouth water, but not for eating...for painting. I snatched it up and carefully brought it home in tact, set it up in my studio and added it's supporting actors, all to say, "aha...a red velvet cake, the best dessert for Christmas! or anytime of the year!"
I paint all my still-lifes from life, sometimes in one setting, and this one is on a 24"x24". I did get hungry painting this cake, and it did not last long after it's debut in this painting. My husband and I split it later. Next time I will paint a healthier version....maybe.
I thought I would share this wonderful news with you all. I hope to see you in Steamboat Springs, CO. Art will be there May 24- Sept 2,2019. Ceremony and Reception is in June28, 3:30-8:00.
