Art, like life is a Quandary - Learn to Simplify

Promise of Spring

As I hear the rain hitting my skylights near my art studio, I look out and see the emerald green mossy growth on the branches of my trees, I know Spring is making it's announcement. I am excited to be outdoors painting, and seeing old friends for plein air events. I am also excited about the new paintings that will form out of my arms and hands. It is wonderful to enjoy your painting process, rather than have too many expectations so that you avoid the worry about what you are doing. Your joy, and love will come out. Worry is for the weary.

This life is full of promise, if you allow it, just like a blank canvas on your easle, everyday is a new and exciting adventure. Just start with one brushstroke, or a beautiful underpainting color, a new one you have not tried. Express what is in your heart. I like to practice with doodling on a paper to see what might be making it's way to the surface of my imagination.  If you are intimidated by your white canvas,  get in the habit of making friends with it. Talk to it. I know that may sound silly, but it is full of atoms. Atoms that were once part of a large tree. Acknowledge it's new life now, and give it more life, as it will wear a painting that can grace someone's home, or life.

I have good relationships with my canvases, :). I acknowledge the old, ones, with my old self, and my old paintings on them. I am trying not to be too unhappy with them, but see their value as a stepping stone of growth. I may cover it again with a new image, after sanding of course, or keep it for a relic or milestone. TRY to make friends with the canvas. Maybe it will help you with your imagination today as you get out your paints and start anew. BECOME ONE with it. We used to laugh at this thought when we were kids, when our coach would tell us to "become ONE with the ball" in basketball. But there is much truth in this method. If you become ONE, or get connected with your canvas, the TEAM effort, may surprise you.

BLESSINGS!!!!

CREATIVITY - It is IN YOU

So painting, drawing, writing, music, etc is thought to be in the creative field. But much of what we do is usually a copy of something we see, hear or feel. Ever hear the term, nothing is new under the sun?  I live by the belief that "All things are possible!" So instead of just copying or redoing something that someone else has tapped into, try finding your creative side. What would your work look like if you could tap into your creative self? (or MORE into your creative self) We are all creative! We just need to tap into our potential!

I found this article about the "7 Surprising Facts about Creativity According to Science" that somewhat blew my mind. Guess why? Because some of these we have been pounded by our teachers, parents and others that these are NOT things to focus on in our life. I will give you the list, and you can read the article for more information, to see what you think, and start daydreaming, listening to intuition, and maybe showering (ha)  a little more. The 7 Surprising facts are:

  1. 72% OF PEOPLE HAVE CREATIVE INSIGHTS IN THE SHOWER
  2. THE INTROVERTS ARE ONTO SOMETHING: SOLITUDE IS WHERE CREATIVITY THRIVES
  3. TRYING NEW THINGS MAKES YOU MORE CREATIVE
  4. TRUST YOUR INTUITION, (That is how LSD was discovered)
  5. TRAUMA HAS HIDDEN CREATIVE PROPERTIES
  6. DAYDREAMING IS SURPRISINGLY GOOD FOR YOUR BRAIN
  7. SOME OF THE BEST IDEAS ARE WIDELY RIDICULED BEFORE THEY’RE REVERED

Think about how our workday would go, if it were filled with just a little creativity? Or what you may be able to add to your workplace if you gave them some of your creative ideas? Maybe keep a journal beside you (or in the shower) that you can jot down some creative and imaginative ideas throughout the day, and act on one of those, or give to your Manager. This is a great exercise to do, and make the humdrum turn into creative moments. It could help you be creative in your art.

I love this quote: : "You can't use up creativity, the more you use it the more you have." Maya Angelou

Think of  your creativity as an egg inside of you that needs to be hatched, and then put to work!

"Creativity is putting your imagination to work, and it's produced the most extraordinary results in human culture." - Ken Robinson.

So please, do not just THINK about being creative, or imaginative-do ONE thing that you come up with today! Write a story line, paint a picture, sing a song from your heart with made up words, TAKE A SHOWER!!!

I would love for you to add some of your creative thoughts to this blog. RESPOND! Let me know you have creativity deep in yourself that can actually surface and make the world a better place. No idea is too weird!

Finding what you love to create!

First of all, there is nothing wrong with making money doing what you love. In fact, I think it should go hand in hand. I have heard people say they are afraid it would  become like work. The idea that what you love might become "work", needs to be put far from your realm of thinking. I have always done what I LOVE, and made it pay for itself and support me and my family! I have put this concept of love, work, and money (or better said ' reward') all in one sentence and it is fun!!! You are what you think, and you do what you think you should do. You can change your belief, which in turn changes they way you think.

If you are a creative, and you work in your field of creativity, THAT IS AWESOME! Even if it is part time. Maybe you are working towards a full time reward for doing what you love. That is great too! I find creating what 'I love' to be harder than making money for my creative work. I do not know why, but maybe because there is so much about what I do, that 'I love', that it is just hard to define. I hope I haven't confused you.

I am on a mission to combine my "Love of subject" with my "love for creativity". Finding and putting my "true self" into my work, enjoying it, and being rewarded for it. I hope you join me on this journey of "Finding what you love" , which in turn will hopefully create peace, and bring love to our planet.

Happy creating!
