Renewal
As I was cleaning out my clothes closet, I am folding my winter clothes for storage, finding spring and summer clothes, and getting rid of stuff that....just has been occupying space for the "What if" days. Some of it is "What if I lose all of my clothes and this is the last thing in the closet?"-"what if". That should have gone a LONG time ago. So many things we put up with in life for the "What If's".
As a person constantly in search of my truth, my personal art voice, that magical path; cleaning out the closet is a cathartic experience. It reviews the past, the present and the future (New clothes). I realize how time flies and seems like I just did this. It seems every season I am looking forward to a different set of clothes with new adventures ahead. I heard a renewal message during my meditation today about our cells in our body. They are constantly renewing themselves; getting rid of old, cycling in new-keeping us as healthy as we allow them by what we do with our bodies. But they do this without us asking them to-it is their job.
The vision I portrayed in my mind showed the cells like a school of fish, constantly changing directions and flowing smoothly together in harmony. What a miracle our creator made from the visualization stage to the realization stage. To have a world in motion that is in constant renewal. I think we forget this. I sometimes feel guilty when I leave a subject or style of artwork to pursue a new path, or a progressive path. I look at old artwork and say - that was good, why did I leave that? But frankly- I am just moving forward, renewing daily, making art in the present moment. As I change - so does my art.
We are a culmination of our own thoughts, those thoughts from other voices outside of us, our experiences, and our dreams. To dig deep inside of our internal closet and clean out those things that need to be put into a cabinet for later, or thrown away is a brave and sometimes daunting thing to do. Get rid of those "what if's". Get rid of those unhealthy items that cause you insecurity and grief, or just doubt. A question I ask myself is : Is this serving me, or my purpose? If my purpose in life is serving others with no discernment and forgetting who I am, who the creator made....then ok. But that will leave you second guessing everything you do.
"Singing someone else's song may teach you something about music, but it won't satisfy that yearning deep inside to sing your own song, to be an artist." ~Frank La Lumia
I saw that quote in my Dawn Whitelaw workshop book-who has lived this quote and continues to move forward, adding to her already extremely talented body of artwork. She reminds us that our voice becomes apparent when we can tell someone else WHY we paint the things we paint. Renew yourself by sitting in front of your easel today with intentions to be creative.
Take this day to clean out your closets! Renew what you are wearing inside and out.
This is a dedication to a dear friend and artist who passed away on May 17, 2023 , Glenda Goldfinger; Who has been renewed and is still in constant motion as our creator designed. Much Love to you.
